Bhaktapur farmers raise cry for scientific farming

Peasants have called for scientific farming at a time when the agro-based profession is on the verge of extinction with the lack of quality seeds, irrigation and chemical fertiliser in the district on Monday.
Participating in a programme titled “Climate Change, Food Security and Issues of Peasants”, jointly organised by Radio Sagarmatha, Bhaktapur Industry and Commerce Association and Bhaktapur FM, the farmers pointed out that their financial status will not improve unless scientific farming is adopted.

Drawing the attention of the concerned body to the causes of decline in agricultural production, Anita Basnet, a farmer of Gundu, underscored the need of spreading awareness among the farmers regarding global warming and climate change.

Most of the participants had emphasised on the production of chemical fertilisers within the country itself to meet the requirements of the farmers.

Rajendra KC, Local Development Officer at Bhaktapur District Development Committee, said he would take up the peasants’ issues to the meeting of the Agriculture Committee under the DDC, thereby formulating a master plan for long-term development of the agriculture.
